From the first sip of your cocktail, 10 floors up and overlooking the Zoo, it is clear that the west of the city is changing. The 25h Bikini hotel opened in April 2014 and is part of the regeneration of this area that was previously best known for its chain shops, Church memorial and of course the Zoo. The latter has become the centrepiece of the hotel. The vast floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the building and in the rooftop Monkey Bar offer wonderful views of the monkey enclosure, treetops and an impressive vista of the city.
Designer Werner Aisslinger has created a space that manages to harmonise concrete and greenery, at once brutal and modern yet welcoming and comfortable; the black tiled shower rooms have coloured disco lights, but the whole room becomes a jungle with the reflection of the Tiergarten on every shiny surface.
Whether you are relaxing in one of the many hammocks, borrowing a free bike to explore the park, or taking a sauna while watching the monkeys, the 25h Bikini offers a unique and memorable mix of nature and urbanity in Berlin.
