Invitees jostled into the BFC Space to see what the consistently good Matthew Miller had in store for AW17, and the outspoken designer certainly had something to say this season, with his aptly named “Fear Itself” collection, a comment on the current deceptive political landscape.
The military harnesses, head-to-toe black looks, and the warrior makeup are just some of the ways he established ‘Project Fear’ as next season’s protective uniform.
Tech-fabric bombers sat alongside tailored trousers and layered knitwear, while the hard/soft mix of leather and delicate gauzy layers were presented on his female warrior models. The ceremonial scarves were printed with washed up florals and coats made of heavy patterned wool, left with raw hems. The Stoke-on-Trent-born designer certainly gives the often whimsical London Fashion Week Mens a reality check. With a collection of wearable but seriously slick pieces, Fear Itself never looked so cool.
