“This collection is about openness, and looking out into the world” – Jonny Johansson

Acne Studios has just released a new campaign for its SS17 collection. Shot by Paolo Roversi, each sun-faded image features creatives with Iranian, Iraqi and Kuwaiti backgrounds. The beautiful cast includes artist, musician and recent SLEEK cover star Fatima Al Qadiri alongside artists Hayv Kahraman and Sadaf H. Nava, actress Golshifteh Farahani, stylist Yasmina Benabdelkrim and editor Negar Azimi. Regarding the brand’s motives behind its casting decision, Acne Studios’ creative director Jonny Johansson explained to Dazed, “This collection is about openness, and looking out into the world.”

Following the news of last week’s travel-ban from Trump, Roversi’s romantic, polaroid aesthetic combined with the beauty of the subjects makes the campaign feel like a beam of light in an otherwise oppressive time.
