The 7 Point Guide to 60s Supermodel Veruschka

The icon is still killing it as the new face of Acne Studios

At age 78, Veruschka von Lehndorff is the face of Acne Studios Resort 18. The legendary 60s model lends her ageless beauty and elegant poise to the Swedish brand’s tough leather, boxy denim, and luxe satin. If, like us, you want to channel your inner Amazonian beauty, here are few things to know about the original supermodel herself.

1. Real name

Veruschka is not her real name. Born, Vera Gottliebe Anna Gräfin von Lehndorff-Steinort, in East Prussia, she changed her name to Verushka meaning ‘Little Vera’ in Russian. As Vera her modelling career didn’t get off to the best start, however after she rebranded as Veruschka, New York photographers, including Irvine Penn, began to take notice.

2. Real aristocracy

She is the daughter of a Count and Countess. Her father was a German Aristocrat and played a large role in the German Resistance, he was sadly executed for an alleged attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler.

3. She was in the film Blow-Up

The 1966 film Blow-Up made her an international name. In those days models were not the superstars they are today, but her cameo role in the movie about a fashion photographer who unwittingly captures a murder on film, catapulted Veruschka into the spotlight.

4. Rebellious

She quit modeling after a disagreement with American Vogue Editor Grace Mirabella in 1975. The title asked her to cut her hair and Veruschka refused.

5. Bond Girl

She was a Bond girl, but not until 40 years after her career began. With her textbook Bond girl looks, it’s surprising that Veruschka only snapped up a small role in the film series in 2006’s Casino Royale, playing a slick poker player.

6. Swapped fashion for art

She swapped fashion for art. Versuchka integrated into the art world in the 80s after collaborating with photographer Holger Trulzsch on a body painting series.

7. Berlin

Veruschka is now living in Berlin, concentrating on her painting and has taken in seven stray cats.
