Couture Fashion Week doesn’t typically excite your average fashion lover – ridiculously priced one-off gowns created for the super-rich to wear to events we would never attend. However, the chicest brand in New-York, Proenza Schouler have swapped their NYFW show for a slot during Paris Couture Week, which is more than enough reason to disregard some the previous stuffy connotations we may have had, to sit up at take note.
One emerging designer that turned heads during the same week is Hyun Mi Nielsen. The South Korean adoptee was raised in Denmark and has previously worked with Ricardo Tisci at Givenchy and as the right hand of Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen. Starting her own brand under a year ago, Nielsen combined her experience working with the best in the business to bring her own vision to Paris’ Couture Week. Hyun Mi is creating dresses and separates that stylish women want to wear – flared suiting, patent coats and embellished statement pieces. The new talent is forging her own niche by merging contemporary silhouettes with hand crafted techniques. Watch out for Hyun Mi Nielsen fans rocking some casual couture to a supermarket near you.
