Google and Boiler Room Create an A.I. Playground in Berlin

The two forces partnered again last week to show the new ways in which technology can shape our creativity.

Following on from their previous collaboration, Google and Boiler Room partnered again last week to showcase the ways in which technology can shape our creativity. To coincide with the release of Google Pixel 2, the two companies created an immersive Artificial Intelligence playground in the form of a “Sci-Fi Super Mall” inside a Neukölln warehouse.

The super Instagrammable playground brought to life many of the phone’s new advanced A.I. features, like the intelligent camera exemplified by interactive LED photo walls. Other futuristic recreations included a corner where you could ask the phone to switch the colour of the lights of mirrored infinity room, which paralleled the phone’s unlimited pictures and videos storage.

Besides re-staging their first “VR Dancefloors: Techno in Berlin” collab, Boiler Room further explored the creative possibilities of A.I. and music by creating the fictional Pixel Records, which allowed participants to submit vocal samples to be turned into an A.I.-generated music track. (You can also try it online here.) At another corner of the “shopping mall”, you could order a burger chosen from a Russian menu that was instantly translated using the Google Translate app.

The night concluded with a stream banging DJ sets from music luminaries including SLEEK 51’s cover star Fatima Al Qadiri, as well as RIN, mobilegirl, Mischa Mafia, Larry B & Crackstevens, and Lorenzo Senni. Has the future arrived early?
