Berlin goes Bad Gastein (The Berge)
Whether it’s the “skiing camp” organized by the Berlin party collective Broken Hearts Club or the familiar presence of a branch of Berlin’s most traditional restaurant, Lutter & Wegner: Berlin seems to feel right at home in Bad Gastein, Austria. This new trend, however, is only puzzling at first. After all, Berlin’s own mountain, “The Berg”, has long whetted the capital’s alpine appetites, the current owner of Lutter & Wegner is a Bad Gastein native and the Hotel Miramonte has a Berlin PR agency. The fact that Hotel Regina is run by a Hamburger, Olaf Krone, doesn’t keep party-prone Berliners from making this their preferred lodging – perhaps because the DJ’s playing here come from Berlin as well. More on Berlin’s expansionist tendencies in sleek No. 25 “Profit | Loss”, to be delivered to newsstands March 19.
