If you’re passing through Berlin’s historical Karl-Marx-Alle these days, you’d notice that the impressive socialist boulevard..err..sounds different. Gallery im namen des raumes, artist collective Berg26 and sound designer Max Schneider have come together to enhanced the historic boulevard with auditory ornaments and thus mark the first World Listening Day.
The sound-art exhibition engages the whole of the boulevard turned art district, with internationally acclaimed artists such as Bjoern Melhus, Jason Dodge, Douglas Henderson and Robert Henke showing works indoors and outdoors along the Karl-Marx-Allee in cooperation with Berg26.
The gallery im namen des raumes on Strausberger Platz is the starting point where visitors receive an exhibition map and information about the works and artists, as well as headphones and radio receivers to be used with video installations. Along the boulevard, works are installed in empty storefronts, unused offices and various galleries empty during their summer break. The exhibition, whch tests the auditory situation of our urban environments, is dubbed klang im namen des raumes – sounds good to us!
Between Strausberger Platz and Frankfurter Tor, from July 18 until August 29, 2010-
