The latest developments in shoe-making force us to include a third discipline in sleek, next to art and fashion: architecture. In our next issue themed “Profit | Loss”, Imelda Marcos will reveal how shoes became her Achilles’ heel.
World Community Grid Water Features by AIDS-3D
One of sleek’s favourite German words of all times is “Zimmerspringbrunnen”. What it means? Apparently much more than we ever dared to hope, as the latest three-dimensional outpourings of one of our (not of all times) favourite artist duos, AIDS-3D, promise to reveal. “A group of spectacular cast-fiberglass fountains stand together on an elevated server-room floor….” Rest of story: www.aids-3d.com
De-produce don’t re-produce!
Tonight at .HBC Berlin, fashion designer Emilie Luc-Duc and artist Morgan Belenguer, will teach us a little lesson on consumerism. Over their 10 day residency at Berlin’s most versatile art-cum-social entertainment space of the moment, they deconstructed mass-produced garments “to find the unique”.

sleek invites William Powhida to contribute
Herewith sleek magazine invites New York based artist William Powhida to contribute some of his illuminating drawings on the Who’s Who of the art world to a future issue of sleek, probably the autumn issue, without offering him any remuneration. However, since it can be assumed that Powhida will never read this post, our generous invitation might as well have remained unexpressed.
Say NO to art!
Santiago Sierra’s two letter work “NO”, consisting of two letters (“N”, and “O”) travelling the world mostly on a pickup truck, is still travelling the world (pictured here on Times Square, NYC), mostly on a pickup truck, and will continue to do so for a while. Is this a good work? NO! Great work!
Are you alive enough to wear this?
Mortal remains in form of accessories? Yes. Although we are a little put off by the thought of accessories being made of the remains of human corpses such as hair and cremated ashes, these pieces by aspiring designer Anna Schwamborn are so beautifully made that we are inclined to put our concerns aside. Schwamborn describes [more]
Suicide bombing for everyone!

sleek holding Topshop to ransom
We have already expressed our dismay at Uniqlo for not having a store in Berlin. We also wouldn’t mind the existence of other fashion brands’ stores in our hometown, Topshop for example. Their spring program boasts collaborations with some of the most exciting British fashion designers around. Available at the moment are the collections by Jonathan Saunders, Ashish and Ann-Sofie Back; Richard Nicoll and Mary Katrantzou will follow next week (from 18 February), and Danielle Scutt in March. At least Topshop ships to Germany now, so you can order at www.topshop.com, but sleek’s staff actually has decided to boycott Topshpop altogether until they open a shop in Berlin.
