Bei Esther bist du schön!

At the end of a long fashion week, the one trend discernible in all off-location events was the “alternative fashion show.” Let’s recap: so far we have seen a movie, an interpretive dance performance, a live broadcast of a rooftop catwalk, a band rocking out in a menswear collection and countless inevitable artsy presentations. Esther Perbandt took her outside-the-tent event even further outside the box and orchestrated a pleasant little street fair in front of her Almstrasse store. In light of the strange wave of tropical weather, the ice cream stand that welcomed the sweaty guests was a brilliant maneuver; not only were we immediately pacified, we also dropped the “entertain us, now!” attitude and merrily compared flavors as we waited for the show to begin. Suddenly, from the far end of the street, a brass band marched in our direction, playing blithesome brass and klezmer tunes. Mixed in with the all-girl brass band, the models were so obviously enjoying themselves as they sang, danced and cheered walking down the street in the new collection. When “Bei mir bist du schön” came up, an elated Esther Perbandt joined her girl troop and celebrated her music-inspired collection with a crowd of jubilant, ice cream smeared guests.
