Berlin’s got talent. But where?

Winners of the Premium Young Designers Award

Monday night marked the unofficial beginning of Berlin Fashion Week. In it’s tenth year, the Premium trade fair’s Young Designer Award took place at the F95 concept store. Part of the phalanx against the commercialization and dulling of Berlin’s fashion scene, Premium’s goal is to encourage young talents and sponsor them in order to keep the Hauptstadt fashion innovative and interesting. Founders Anita und Norbert Tillmann presented their most promising young designers in the three categories Men’s wear (Tsicko), Women’s wear (Dawid Thomaszewski) and Accessories (Joshua). Winner Dawid Thomaszewski surprised us with the following statement when asked to define his collection: “Ahmmm… sexy? I don’t know.” The other winner’s creative output is nothing to write home about either. But as Premium has found and fostered some gems before, such as the most successful label lala Berlin, we are most willing to forgive. (IR)
