Art Basel and BMW have announced British artist Abigail Reynolds as this year’s winner of the third BMW Art Journey. The artist who studied English at Oxford frequently draws inspiration from literary essays and books. For her project Reynolds will follow 16 sites of libraries lost to political conflicts, looters, natural catastrophes and war while deploying her understanding of blanks and voids. She was selected from a shortlist of three whose works were shown in the Discoveries sector at this year’s Art Basel show in Hong Kong, and will present her winning project later in 2017.
