For AW17 Phoebe English brought us to the beautiful Fitzrovia Chapel to present her latest collection. Entitled Tyranny, the presentation was a feast for the eyes as press packed into the tiny church and meandered around English’s feral looking figures of worship.
The models wore twisted garments in mesh, satin and velvet, layered up so it was hard to tell where one piece ended and the other began. English continued her collaboration with John Smedley, this time to create cosy asymmetric knitwear making this collection another double dose of Britishness.
Each model was crowned with decorative headwear and stood in their own shrine as symbolic figures representing hope in times of fear. Fear has been a common theme among designers for aw17, including Matthew Miller who has a similar message in his show during London Fashion Week Men’s.
