“Clothes are as important to a musician’s creative process and performance as the music itself”, explains Timberlake. “This Levi’s collection is my attempt to share some of my experiences with fans.” The result: a collection that combines the very best aspects of Levi’s lengthy industry experience with Timberlake’s artistic character and musical persona.
The 20-piece collection embodies Timberlake’s musical experiences and creative practices in physical form, delivering a set of garments that are as aesthetically pleasing as they are personal. “Inspired by stories behind Justin’s music,” Karyn Hillman, Chief Product Officer for Levi Strauss & Co explains, “we used classic materials – canvas plaid, camo, flannels, Sherpa and denim and put them into familiar silhouettes and Levi’s icons but remixed them by infusing streetwear elements and hits of modernity” and the capsule collection does exactly this. It sees the brand going back to its humble roots and serving up quintessential Levi’s cuts, shapes, and textures with re-worked detailing and re-imaged contemporary silhouettes, courtesy of Timberlake’s musical spirit.
There’s a sense of authenticity and a DIY attitude behind every item in the Fresh Leaves collection – it’s a feeling that lingers in the very seams of the tartan check shirts and camo print trucker jackets, and in every experimental play on proportion and shape.
