What a day for a day dream

Tears, eerie harp music and crinolines convey a feeling of the modern generation of women stuck in a pandemic. The quick switching camera movement between the running, skinny models, and the majestic garden of the French chateau underlines the feeling of this new generation growing up in times of a global pandemic. On the one hand we/they are caught in difficult times, dreaming of the youthful life but on the other hand, we/they are on their way to break out of the prison this pandemic contains them in. The princess is turning her back to the prescribed sovereignty images that the royalty of the chateau seems to dictate. She is showing us that everything could break apart in a minute.

Hedi Slimane is using the broadly diversified French wardrobe mixed with casual clothes like jeans, hunting boots or sporty cut-out tops. He’s a master of combining these traditional designs with modernity. The shapes are perfectly adjusted to fit the look of the modern and chic women. He combines perfectly tailored blazers with jeans and tight-fitting crop-tops or integrating a glittery dress with a dark green, grunge style bomber jacket. It is an art in itself to combine such classy pieces of clothing with the “lower“ valued forms of clothing, like jeans. The key pieces of the new AW-21 collection from Slimane include crinoline-like ball gown skirts, sparkling dresses, paired with chunky oversized leather jackets, and asymmetrical crop-tops juxtaposed with a contemporary and beautifully-tailored blazers. And-did you notice? He’s reinventing the English tweed coat in various ways.

Again Hedi Slimane is breaking many “dos and don’ts“ but he is doing it in a smart and beautiful way. He’s a master of presentation. The whole scenery conveys a feeling that you wish to be in this majestic garden of basins, statues and wonderful fountains walking along with the models. This feeling is amplified in the final scene where the sky over the chateau is decorated with fireworks, and the last model standing next to a deer. The collection gives you the opportunity to break out of this trapped situation one day and hope for a future of beauty and freedom.
