The days are getting shorter and the weather colder, but Berlin Art Week is in full bloom. From September 9 to 13, 2026, contemporary art takes over the city, with more than 120 museums, galleries, collections and project spaces taking part. Between major institutions and off-spaces, established names and emerging artists, there is a lot to see and even more to miss. To make navigating the programme a little easier, SLEEK has selected the exhibitions worth having on your radar this Berlin Art Week.
1. Gropius Bau
Kreuzberg: Kunst und Migration seit 1960

With the exhibition Kreuzberg: Art and Migration since 1960, curated by Gürsoy Doğtaş and Patrizia Dander, the Gropius Bau explores the artistic engagement—which has received little attention to date—with the upheavals that labor migration has shaped in Berlin-Kreuzberg since the 1960s and 1970s. In parallel, from September 11, 2026, through February 7, 2027, the Berlin Museum will present Divided Lives: Art and Migration in Berlin, offering a corresponding perspective on the topic.
2. Berlinische Galerie
Jeewi Lee. Residual Memories, GASAG Art Prize 2026

Artist Jeewi Lee, born in Seoul in 1987 and based in Berlin, is the recipient of the 2026 Gasag Art Prize, which has been awarded since 2010 by Gasag in partnership with the Berlinische Galerie at the intersection of art, science, and technology. In her practice, she works with site-specific installations, sculpture, and serial paintings, using seemingly worthless materials imbued with traces of memory and transience to connect scientific analysis with Taoist philosophy.

3. SLEEK Art Space
Thomas Kretschmann Kurzgeschichten

Actor Thomas Kretschmann, based in both L.A. and Berlin, is showcasing his photographs in an exhibition, many of which are on public display for the first time. The photos were taken while he was working on film sets, where he had unique access to his colleagues and filming locations. These unplanned shots, guided by curiosity and chance, range from behind-the-scenes moments to personal observations and offer an intimate, instinctive glimpse of the world through his eyes. 4. Offsite Arts x Italienische Botschaft
Berlinde De Bruyckere | Caravaggio

Caravaggio’s Mary Magdalene in Ecstasy is being exhibited publicly in Germany for the first time. At the Italian Embassy, the long-lost masterpiece is paired with a new sculpture by Berlinde De Bruyckere from her series Liggende Arcangelo. Together, the two works spark a powerful dialogue about physicality, spirituality, and vulnerability, bridging the past and the present.

5. Schattenlos Atelier

An evening celebrating art, culture and creativity, featuring an exhibition of sculptures and paintings by Gabriella Furno and a special live performance by renowned dancer Alvin William Collantes.

7. Sprüth Magers
Walther Dahn Let’s Get Married, Let’s Get Lost

In the 1980s, Walter Dahn emerged in Cologne as a pioneering figure of “Bad Painting” and a founding member of the neo-expressionist, punk-inflected group Mülheimer Freiheit, whose practice centred on a critical reassessment of painting as a medium. Drawing on references to contemporary music and popular culture, his works provoke a wide range of associations that interrogate the visual ideologies underpinning everyday life. On the occasion of Berlin Art Week, Sprüth Magers presents a survey of Dahn’s work. It is the first exhibition since his passing in 2024.

8. Neue Nationalgalerie
Maurizio Cattelan. Night, Preis der Nationalgalerie 2026

With NIGHT, the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin is presenting Maurizio Cattelan’s first major solo exhibition in Germany as part of the 2026 Nationalgalerie Prize, for which he was selected by an international jury. The exhibition brings together key historical works such as Him, Novecento, und La Rivoluzione Siamo Noi with new works, as well as a specially developed, site-specific installation in the iconic Mies van der Rohe building.

9. Ebensperger—Arminiusmarkthalle

The Arminius Markthalle brings together several projects: Chicks on Speed, in collaboration with Kathi Glas and Watermelon Studios, are launching a residency that will run through May 2027, during which the Markthalle will serve as a broadcast studio and vendors and visitors will help create costumes, sound objects, and a mobile performance to be featured in a music video. Additionally, the Bonnie Camplin Archive exhibition presents the British artist’s complete body of work for the first time, featuring artworks, research materials, and archival documents.

Ersan Mondtag and Nadim Samman are staging a tableau vivant at the Gemäldegalerie featuring 25 performers, which juxtaposes the visual worlds of the Old Masters with the transience of today’s bodies and life stories and revolves around themes of exhaustion, renewal, disappearance, and continuity. The participants, representing various generations, include Frank Büttner, Eva-Maria Keller, Sema Poyraz, WestBam, and Louis Hofmann, among others.
11.SiNEMA TRANSTOPIA
UNDER THE TABLE
ACTIVATION

Under the Table is an installation in the garden of SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA: A 7.5-meter-long table reinterprets Eastern Mediterranean dining cultures as a cyclical space of destruction, purification, and renewal. During Berlin Art Week, the table will come to life through the Bujrum workshop—featuring a coffee-ground reading by Dalila Daut and a DJ set by DJ Da-Da, curated by Dafni Rüde in collaboration with BALKAN RADIKAL.
