One man may have just discovered the identity behind street art’s most mysterious figure. Since 1990, Bristol-based graffiti artist Banksy has achieved infamy for his murals featured in cities around the world. Despite becoming a household name however, the creative has managed to maintain a certain level of anonymity that left fans and foes alike curious for an answer – until today, that is.
In a reveal that feels straight out of a Scooby Doo episode, Scottish journalist Craig Williams claims the man behind Banksy is none other than trip-hop star and Massive Attack band member Robert Del Naja aka “3D”. Though no actual proof has been released, Williams’ report provides insight from Google Maps, where the super sleuth compares various geo-locations of Banksy’s art with tour schedules from Massive Attack. Although it’s still too early to determine whether or not this conspiracy theory has any real truth, we like to imagine Del Naja slipping out after shows for a quick paste-up between gigs. However when confronted with the canard 3D simply stated: “Rumours of me being Banksy greatly exaggerated, we are all Banksy!” The saga continues.
