Housed inside a former power plant, Berliner Liste is the art fair positioning itself as an affordable way for cultural enthusiasts to dip their toes into the world of procuring art. Nestled among the booths is Absolut’s newest addition to its Art Bar project, a leafy installation by German artist Clemens Behr entitled “Noasis”. The tropical-themed structure, which is inspired by the urban landscapes of South American cities like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, offers an oasis away from the mayhem of Berlin Art Week – even if its name suggests otherwise.
“My work is a classic confrontation between nature and architecture,” says Behr. “Its light and shadow effects create a poetic moment between construction and deconstruction, between chaos and order.” The effects that he is speaking on have been created using asymmetrical mirrors and fog machines to create a dynamic environment that scatters and reflects the light. In keeping with Absolut’s Art Bar tradition, the artist has also concocted an exclusive cocktail for the event. Borrowing the same name as Behr’s installation, the “Absolut Noasis” is made from basil and ginger lemonade and vodka.
