Gucci\u2019s latest campaign is \u201cExquisite\u201d, both for its execution and ability to blur the line between fashion and cinema. An ode to Stanley Kubrick, the visionary of film, Alessandro Michele adopted Kubrick\u2019s \u201cincendiary approach\u201d to creativity through \u201cdisassembling, blending, grafting and reassembling them\u2026seizing [the] movies, romanticising them [and] populating them with [his] clothes.\u201d In the campaign, we see references to a number of Kubrick\u2019s most iconic films: <\/span>The Shining<\/span><\/i> (1980), <\/span>Eyes Wide Shut <\/span><\/i>(1999), <\/span>2001: A Space Odysse<\/span><\/i>y (1968), <\/span>A Clockwork Orange <\/span><\/i>(1971) and<\/span> Barry Lyndon<\/span><\/i> (1975). Combining glamourous dystopias with gothic bourgeoisie drama, \u201cExquisite\u201d is an embodiment of Michele\u2019s exploration of what it means to be a great director.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through this symbiosis of Kubrick and Gucci, film and fashion, \u201cclothes get closer to bare life again.\u201d The designer explains, \u201cThey turn into highly imaginative functional prosthesis, and they do so to tell a story. A story that shatters, enchants, tortures, ignites. Because it\u2019s the story of the human that dwells in each and every one of us. As Stanley Kubrick knew too
