Here at Sleek, we get particularly excited when a project pops up that celebrates and combines our two loves – art and fashion. It comes as no surprise that when a travelling art project caught our attention, which was also backed by one of the most renowned fashion labels in the world, we had to see what it was all about.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Station to Station is a public art project, curated and organised by artist Doug Aitken and sponsored by Levi’s. Aitken was not the only expert in the field of art and curating, with Levi’s incorporating their support and encouragement for new and emerging artists into their label’s DNA.<\/p>\n

The idea for this project was simple:\u00a0 for three weeks in September 2013, a train traveled from NewYork City to San Francisco, stopping off at nine stations across the country, going quite literally from station to station. But this wasn’t just any old train. The train itself was a kinetic light sculpture, which broadcasted exclusive content and unique experiences not just the people who saw it go by, but to a world wide audience.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Along the way of this unique project, artists such as Kenneth Anger, Carsten H\u00f6ller, Urs Fischer, and Rirkrit Tiravanija to name but a few, all exhibited and individually played a part in making this journey an exclusive experience for every stop on its path and for every visitor who attended.\u00a0<\/p>\n

To mark the end of the project, the final location, or station, was Oakland, with an extensive and impressive range of artists exhibiting such as Thomas Demand, Olaf Breuning, Evan Holm, Nicolas Provost, Stephen Shore, Allora & Calzadilla, and curator, and driving force behind the entire project, Doug Aitken.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sleek got some exclusive images of artist Olaf Breuning’s Technocolour installation, and Evan Holm’s Underwater Music performance happening at the final day of the trip. Here’s hoping for more interactive and interdisciplinary art projects of this kind.\u00a0<\/p>\n
