\u201cI don’t feel like designing things that I don’t believe should exist,\u201d 30 year-old Katarina \u0160o\u0161kic’s replies when asked why she turned to photography from her education as a graphic designer. The Belgrade-born artist came to Vienna five years ago to continue her studies as a graphic designer but has since found herself more behind the camera lens than in front of the computer screen. \u201cI wouldn’t say that I am not a designer but I would always question the situation of when I should design or not. The topic of responsibility is important for me but I don’t think it is necessary to distinguish art and design \u2013 they meet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Where as photography is a tool for \u0160o\u0161kic to express her thoughts and feelings, design is a tool to shape these idea. \u201cDesign for me is the end of a process. When you are sure about the other steps\u00a0 design comes naturally and it should make your work readable in the way you think it should be read.\u201d It seems as though the ongoing battle of \u201cart versus design\u201d doesn’t much engage \u0160o\u0161kic: \u201cthey need each other, it’s as simple as that.\u201d<\/p>\n
