P\u00fctter’s preparations start with the costumes. “It’s important,” he emphasises, highlighting the significance of clothing for his character development.<\/p>\n

Trytsan Wyn P\u00fctter, born in 1980, established himself as one of the most versatile actors of his generation \u2013 like a chameleon, he embodies the traumatised soldier or the shady pimp with equal conviction.<\/p>\n

Pu\u0308tter\u2019s working method follows a precise ritual: \u201cI try to read the script 150 times,\u201d he explains of his process, \u201cso that I know it extremely well.\u201d However, this obsessive control is only the first phase of a process that paradoxically leads to letting go completely \u2013 \u201cand for me, that\u2019s almost the hardest moment, when you no longer think but, instead, like in a moment of free fall, you see what comes.\u201d This builds the foundation of Pu\u0308tter\u2019s acting philosophy as he describes a state in which conscious control gives way to the \u2019inner voice\u2019 becoming the \u2019voice of the character.\u2019 \u201cThat\u2019s really something that, for me, makes up the magic of acting \u2013 when ideas come to you that you wouldn\u2019t have had yourself, but the character would definitely have.\u201d<\/p>\n

This form of immersion carries the risk of failing to detach from the assumed role. This makes it all the more important to maintain balance: \u201cI still see it as a profession, and I can separate the two. Who is the character and who am I?\u201d Pu\u0308tter\u2019s affinity for complex, often disturbing characters is remarkable. \u201cThe more difficult, the better. I love descending into the abyss,\u201d he says of his role choices. In the series Parfum, he played a pimp who was abused as a child \u2013 a character that pushed him to his psychological limits. \u201cThese are characters that are incredibly challenging. But that\u2019s the reason why I became an actor.\u201d Pu\u0308tter looks for the scars of life in every character: \u201cI always try to play the characters from a place of hurt \u2013 how people act from their trauma. In his latest film, Raging Moms by Sonja Heiss, shows Pu\u0308tter in an unusual constellation: alongside his partner, they play a married couple in crisis. \u201cThe personal and the professional became so intertwined,\u201d he reflects on this experience. The parallels to real life made it \u201cextremely difficult\u201d not to take it home with him. This fusion of fiction and reality illustrates the intensity of Pu\u0308tter\u2019s working method \u2013 a risky game with his own identity in service of the art of acting.<\/p>\n

Pu\u0308tter experienced his most radical form of immersion in theatre, especially in Frank Castorf\u2019s productions, the former artistic director of the Volksbu\u0308hne Berlin: \u201cWhich, in principle, always cause some sort of total exhaustion, so that what takes place is no longer a play in the conventional sense, but something transcendent.\u201d This \u2019total exhaustion\u2019 is not collateral damage but method. It leads to a state in which conscious control breaks down and \u201csomething else takes over.\u201d Pu\u0308tter seeks out these \u2019extreme work experiences\u2019 \u2013 for him, they are the place of true artistic transcendence.<\/p>\n

Pu\u0308tter becomes particularly emotional when he talks about the birth of his daughter \u2013 the one moment he wants to hold on to forever. \u201cThat\u2019s the moment you write down; the moment I wrote down, and just like in a film, it remains with me.\u201d Here, life and art merge on another level: reality becomes cinema, and the most significant moment becomes an unforgettable scene.<\/p>\n

In an age when authenticity often becomes a brand, Pu\u0308tter embodies the opposite: the conscious uncertainty of one\u2019s own identity in favour of foreign truths. His art is radical and risky \u2013 which is precisely why it is so fascinating. \u201cThe more complex and the greater the challenge, the more I enjoy it,\u201d he says. It is this desire for the unknown, for the loss of control, that makes him one of the most interesting actors of his generation. At the end of our conversation, Trystan Pu\u0308tter talks about his dream of travelling through India by train, like in Wes Anderson\u2019s Darjeeling Limited \u2013 \u201cwith two absurd friends, a great collection of travel bags, and a light green suit.\u201d It\u2019s an image that suits him perfectly: the eternal traveller between identities, always ready for the next transformation, the next immersion in a foreign world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
