\u00a0Last night in a sub-zero, snow covered Copenhagen, Wood Wood invited a slew of fans and friends to a spectacular presentation of their Winter 2014 collection. The venue, a climbing gym with multi-coloured climbing walls, was indisputably a stroke of genius. Forget about Night at the Museum, the magical, dramatically lit landscape of the dotted climbing walls with their irregular faux-geology transported the audience into a liminal space between childhood and the future, between encountering an enchanted playground and a huge challenge.<\/p>\n
Challenge, it turns out, was the inspiration for the collection, entitled \u201cHeroes.\u201d Taking its cue from the post-war film \u201cThe Guns of Navarone\u201d, and the proto-typical courageous men portrayed in it, the collection re-interpreted wearable classical always incorporating the addictive Wood Wood edge.<\/p>\n
Some highlights included colour blocking on fitted pant-legs and leggings, mostly only visible from the back \u2013 a simple concept that achieves a whole lot, by pointing towards the existence of more than one perspective. What you see in the mirror when you get dressed is only a fraction of the story.\u00a0 The colour palette included deep, dark blues, greens and crimsons, which, combined with the soft flow of materials, looked sensuous and sophisticated. A weak point came in the form of some tracksuits for men, where the aforementioned edge didn\u2019t come to the fore. But there are enough covetable items in this coherent collection to conclude that Wood Wood is a label that is ever evolving, aiming ever higher, and is at this point the epitome of what an \u201curban\u201d label can do from this side of high fashion. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n
