My brain is completely cooked, and I\u2019m in urgent need of fixing the mess. Somewhere between the forty-seventh TikTok and the two-hundredth Instagram Reel, my attention span doesn\u2019t just shrink, it completely collapses. It feels like I\u2019m watching my own life through a screen: constantly distracted, forever reaching for the next hit of dopamine. And in a society where you get Sunday news on Monday, silence doesn\u2019t feel peaceful anymore. It feels wrong. What I\u2019m talking about is <\/span>brainrot<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

To be clear: brainrot isn\u2019t a medical diagnosis. It\u2019s a collective recognition and a shared moment of honesty where we admit that our minds feel slower, foggier, and harder to control than they used to. Studies now confirm what we already know deep down: endless short-form videos are actively rewiring our brains. Impulse control weakens. Anxiety rises. To keep it simple: our brains aren\u2019t broken. Those moments barely exist anymore. Every microsecond of potential boredom is immediately filled with algorithms that feed us content before we even realize we\u2019re hungry for it.<\/span><\/p>\n

There\u2019s no pause. Scrolling demands attention while offering nothing in return and simply empty calories for the mind. And when you finally put the phone down, you don\u2019t feel refreshed. You feel hollowed out, like your brain has forgotten how to exist without constant stimulation.<\/span><\/p>\n

So how do we make doing nothing feel possible again? The internet\u2019s answer is <\/span>rawdogging<\/b>. Rawdogging is slang for doing something with zero preparation, zero distraction, and zero safety net. Rawdogging a flight means no movies, no music, no phone. Just you and the seatback in front of you for six hours.\u00a0 No purpose beyond simply being present with yourself. When I told my boss about this new phenomenon, he immediately wanted to be part of the experiment. \u201cHow hard could it be?\u201d<\/em> he asks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Minute three: his leg begins bouncing uncontrollably.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Minute five: he freezes, heart attack.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Minute ten: we call the ambulance.<\/span><\/p>\n

So what’s clear: we need to change something.\u00a0 Psychologists have known this for decades: learning to tolerate boredom isn\u2019t optional because it\u2019s essential. When boredom is avoided entirely, the brain never learns how to self-regulate. Automatically creativity fades and reflection disappears. Thought becomes reactive instead of intentional.<\/span><\/p>\n

In conclusion we need to learn to use stillness as resistance. Rawdogging won\u2019t actually cure burnout and it most definitely\u00a0 won\u2019t dismantle the attention economy or fix a culture built on endless consumption. But it\u2019s a quiet act of resistance against the algorithm\u2019s grip on our minds.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe the answer to brainrot isn\u2019t another productivity hack, another app, or another guru telling us how to optimize focus but maybe it\u2019s simpler than that. <\/span>Maybe it\u2019s giving the brain permission to be bored long enough to remember how to think. That might be the most productive thing we do all year. Because in the end, it\u2019s about how much power and importance we give our own thoughts without distraction.
