English-speaking courses, opportunities to study abroad, and an international jury to judge their designs: ESMOD Berlin HQ are clearly pushing their designers into an international fashion market that is not bounded by the city it calls home. At a runway show at Bikini Berlin, where the first designers to receive BA qualifications from the fashion school showed their collections. The jury, taken from the top reaches of Berlin and international fashion talent, included designers (David Tomaszewski), stylists (Julia Freitag) as well as adidas’s Global Creative Director, Dirk Sch\u00f6nberger.<\/p>\n
The winners of the night were picked, as Sch\u00f6nberger explained in his prizegiving speech, on a subjective basis. “Because that’s what fashion is all about,” he noted as he announced his choice for the Prix du Createur as menswear designer Thomas Cardelli, whose ripped patchwork fabrics impressed the German design powerhouse.<\/p>\n\n
Other winners from the jury were Sojin Park’s illustrated collection that drew on kimono and tailored styles, and one of\u00a0Sleek’s\u00a0<\/em>favourites Jean-C\u00e9dric Sow, whose all-white collection won the Prix de Jury.<\/p>\n\n\n Other highlights included Nike Hopp’s outdoorsy sophistication, Desir\u00e9e Uebbing (which had Schlank<\/em>\u00a0imagining tartan shopping bags)\u00a0and Jan-Philipp Gerlach’s colourful cyberpunk mashup.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Ines Kurzweg, ESMOD Graduate show 2014.
