Last Friday I took part in a performance by artists Sanna Helena Berger and Hanna Nilsson, entitled \u2018A Principal Division Of A Larger Movement\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This performance was the second iteration of an ongoing series of installations from the pair. London-based Swedish artist Sanna Helena Berger<\/a> works predominately with performance, sculpture, video and installation. Her performative work focus on group dynamics, minimal but powerful structures and the interaction between person and object. Hanna Nilsson is an artist, designer, curator and co-founder of PWR studio<\/a> and the curatorial platform V4ULT<\/a> in Berlin (see the first Me, Myself and Art post for my V4ULT performance back in October<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n

The performance took place at Frankfurt am Main gallery<\/a> which, according to founder Emiliano, was an ice-cream shop turned unlicensed brothel before it was shut down and transformed into a project space. During renovation he had to remove pissoirs along with the shop fittings and gaudy “two-scoops please!” signage left behind, in a perfect example of Berlin\u2019s transmutable nature.<\/p>\n

After the performance I cycled to Mitte to catch the afterparty for Jeremy Shaw\u2019<\/a>s show at Johann K\u00f6nig gallery, held at the former Czech cultural centre and embassy on Leipziger Strasse. The mood was loose thanks to the slanted dancefloor and flowing drinks, all bathed in the fractured glow of mirror balls and coloured spotlights.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was too dark for a #sleekalphaselfie (I tried) and too late for a grandma like me to be out anyway so I slipped off around 3am, leaving shapes to be thrown by the more enthusiastic (intoxicated) attendees that remained.<\/p>\n

The following day saw celebrations across Berlin for the 25th<\/sup> anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. I joined some friends on the rooftop at Soho House to try to watch the balloons but it was too misty. Feeling buoyant myself after two glasses of ros\u00e9, I headed to Berlin Community Radio<\/a> to record Ursula K. Le Guin\u2019s sci-fi classic, \u2018The Left Hand of Darkness\u2019 with a group of others from the Young Girl Reading Group<\/a>. YGRG gathers Berlin artists, writers and other creatives to read critical texts and speculative fiction together. The group is headed by Dorota Gaweda (who performed with me on Friday) and Egle Kulbokaite.\u00a0<\/p>\n
