There is little about British-born poet Hanne Lippard that is not enchanting. In the last few years she\u2019s performed across Europe in a variety of venues, \u00a0including a glass vestibule with her white cat Bob. Precise and articulate, sensual and comforting, Lippard\u2019s work is a thrill.
\nStarting out as graphic designer, she realised she had a\u00a0talent for turning a phrase after reading aloud some written copy she was working on, \u201cI\u2019ve had\u00a0other people read my work, but there\u2019s something about the connection between my voice and the writing,\u201d she says. \u201cMaybe it\u2019s possessive and egocentric, but it\u2019s something you can\u2019t break apart.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nBased in Berlin<\/a>, languages seem to come easy to her. With no fewer than six under her belt, she explains that she learned German by attending a weekly artists\u2019 group. No lessons, no books \u2013 no easy feat.
\nMore recently, she\u2019s been thinking about oracles in Greek antiquity – people considered to channel the words and thoughts of the gods. \u201cWhen I begin to read, the voice just comes,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s almost like I black out.\u201d With the written words stemming from her real-world experiences, and a voice that seems to speak from another world, it\u2019s no wonder that when she begins to speak, the room goes silent.
