\nIs it possible to share authorship of an\u00a0inanimate object? This is the theme\u00a0that drives the work of Berlin-based\u00a0artist Santiago Taccetti. Born in\u00a0Buenos Aires, he was raised in Texas\u00a0and New york and studied in Mexico\u00a0City. There, his art education took\u00a0place in part outside of his studies,\u00a0while working with the ambitious\u00a0project space La Panader\u00eda. He moved\u00a0to Barcelona for a stint before settling\u00a0in Berlin<\/a> in 2011. recently he founded\u00a0the Stoneroses curatorial collective\u00a0with artist Mirak Jamal, which, in the\u00a0dwindling days of summer, brought\u00a0hordes of Berliners out of their comfort\u00a0zones to the forests of grunewald,\u00a0for walks through a temporary installation.
\nSantiago\u2019s approach to his work\u00a0has a touch of self-abnegation. He\u00a0turns over authorship to the material,\u00a0unexpected ways. For example, with\u00a0his stone works he simply coats stones\u00a0with trippy, iridescent colours.
\n\u201cI shy away from authorship,\u201d he\u00a0says. \u201cI\u2019m interested in the aesthetics\u00a0but I want to be in collaboration with\u00a0the content of the materials. The stones\u00a0are sculptures, but I never touch them\u00a0except to layer paint on them, and it\u2019s\u00a0not even hands-on painting. you could\u00a0call it sculpture, based on how you\u00a0perceive the object, but I\u2019ve never\u00a0sculpted it, its form existed before I\u00a0came in to contact with it.\u201d
\nRecently, Taccetti has begun applying\u00a0these ideas to canvas-based\u00a0works. Not quite paintings, not quite\u00a0sculptures, these newer pieces nonetheless\u00a0convey the tactile quality of\u00a0his previous works \u2013 one he maintains\u00a0came from relinquishing control to the\u00a0material.<\/p>\n
