As Andrew Bolton admitted the exhibition was \u201cnot about China per se &#8211; but\u00a0about a China that exists in a collective fantasy\u201d. Its role in\u00a0the fashion world is no longer limited to being a source of inspiration for western designers. China\u2019s\u00a0market for luxury goods is the world\u2019s largest and the world\u2019s youngest \u2013 according to consulting\u00a0agency McKinsey and Company, about 80% of the Chinese luxury goods consumers are under 45\u00a0which proves that China\u2019s importance as a global luxury consumer will only grow in the coming\u00a0years. However, not only the Chinese consumers play the key role in the fashion industry &#8211;\u00a0Chinese designers have also been gathering attention in the past years. The shows by <strong>Uma Wang,\u00a0Masha Ma, Xander Zhou, Sankuanz<\/strong> und <strong>Huishan Zhang<\/strong> have long since turned into the highlights\u00a0of the big four fashion weeks, while the Shanghai Fashion Weeks are steadily growing in the\u00a0international circuit.<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"1264.3178612862557\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"1264.3178612862557\">\n<p class=\"size--small\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24841\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sleek-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Uma-Wang-FW15-062.jpg\" alt=\"Uma Wang, Autumn\/Winter 2015. Her voluminous silhouettes make you think of the roomy\u00a019th-century robes, the patterns on the\u00a0heavy fabrics\u00a0evoke the proverbial dragon\u00a0ornaments and yet the traditional elements appear ruthlessly modernised \u2013 the shoulders of the\u00a0dresses are broad and the models have a military stance. While in the collective fantasy of the\u00a0western designers China has been inevitably associated with delicate and shy women, clad in thin\u00a0silks, Wang creates a totally different image of a self-confident and somewhat combatant woman.<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"1265.2718234552342\">\n<p class=\"size--small\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24838\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sleek-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/SANK_MEN_FW15_0309-e1442927321435.jpg\" alt=\"Sankuanz, Fall Winter 2015, London Collections: Men. Most of\u00a0them \u2013 like Masha Ma, <strong>Qiu Hao<\/strong> or Huishan Zhang &#8211; studied outside China and worked at\u00a0internationally acclaimed fashion houses before founding their own brands. Their works are deeply\u00a0rooted in the Chinese culture but strongly influenced by the western fashion tradition. For instance,\u00a0Huishan Zhang implements haute couture t<br \/>\nechniques he learned at Dior along with the traditional\u00a0Chinese craftsmanship. <strong>Shangguan Zhe<\/strong>, the designer behind the streetswear brand Sankuanz is\u00a0clear about his influences: various Chinese teenage subcultures and living conditions in China. Apart from the universally known\u00a0elements of Chinese culture they know how difficult it is to overcome the prejudice of the \u201cMade in\u00a0China\u201d tag and what it takes to give a brand international reach.
