We remember pop-legend David Bowie who died earlier this week with everything you need to know about his \u201cBerlin years\u201d.<\/p>\n

Drugs
<\/strong>Bowie famously \u201ckilled off\u201d his characters before swiftly moving on to the next. But in 1976 he was finding the cocaine-riddled Thin White Duke harder to shake. His move to Berlin was an attempt to seek relative anonymity and an environment in which he could rid himself of this alter ego and addiction. He rode his bicycle in a boiler suit to the studio each day and Berliners – as ice-cool then as they are now – never bothered him. \u201cFor some reason Berliners just didn\u2019t care, well not about an English rock star anyway\u201d, he later said.<\/p>\n

The Berlin Trilogy
<\/u><\/strong>Whilst in Berlin he wrote and recorded\u00a0at Hansa Studios the majority of the three albums often considered his most critically acclaimed work: \u201cLow\u201d, \u201cHeroes\u201d and \u201cLodger\u201d. The most experimental and least commercial of the trio, \u201cLodger\u201d, was a postcard to his disapproving record label noting his destruction of \u201cDavid Bowie, the popstar\u201d; the cover showed a broken limbed Bowie, smashed up on the ground.<\/p>\n
