\nWhen Alexander McQueen<\/a>\u00a0passed away in 2010, the entire fashion industry mourned. As\u00a0one of the\u00a0most beloved designers to\u00a0emerge\u00a0from Savile Row, his impeccable\u00a0tailoring and\u00a0unique vision propelled the British-born creative\u00a0to the forefront of fashion, where he remained until an untimely death at the age of 40. Now, a student\u00a0from McQueen’s alma mater Central Saint Martins\u00a0has announced plans to transform the late designer’s DNA into a conceptual range of leather jackets and accessories.
\nCreated by\u00a0Tina Gorjanc<\/a>, the project is\u00a0entitled “Pure Human” and will utilise DNA taken from “Jack the Ripper Stalks his Victims”,\u00a0McQueen’s first collection which features locks of his\u00a0hair.\u00a0After the skin is created, it will then be tanned and fashioned to include realistic renderings of the designer’s\u00a0tattoos. The entire process is so scientifically advanced that\u00a0finished pieces will even have realistic mole patterns and freckles. No\u00a0pieces have been created from McQueen’s DNA yet, and all prototypes were made using pig skin.

\nIf you were getting excited about the idea of wearing your favourite designer’s skin \u00e0 la Buffalo Bill<\/a>, we’re sorry to inform you that\u00a0it is unlikely\u00a0Gorjanc’s collection will ever reach stores. “The Pure Human project was designed as a critical project that aims to address shortcomings concerning the protection of biological information and move the debate forward using current legal structures,” says the young designer.\u00a0Rather than a future in retail, she foresees the finished collection sold to a collector or displayed\u00a0in a gallery.
