\nFirst launched in 2013, the Lexus Design Award<\/a> is a yearly competition that aims to\u00a0discover and foster young talent from around the globe.\u00a0This year, the Japanese automobile company returns\u00a0for\u00a0its third instalment and with announcement of “Yet” as its theme, contestants have been asked to submit\u00a0their most\u00a0utopian designs ever.
\nFrom now through 16 October, applicants will have the opportunity to offer their own interpretation of “Yet”. In a statement on the award’s website,\u00a0Lexus International Executive Vice-President Yoshihiro Sawa clarifies the theme, stating, “At Lexus, our ‘Yet’ philosophy gives us the courage to combine elements that at first seem incompatible.” He furthers, “With ‘Yet’, we don’t compromise; we harmonise to create synergy that reveals unexpected yet amazing new possibilities.” Once all applications have been received, judges will narrow down their selections to eight panel\u00a0finalists. From there, each remaining contestant will be given a mentor to assist in the realisation of their design. Mentors include well-known creators such as furniture designer\u00a0Max Lamb<\/a> and the collaborative art duo\u00a0Snarkitecture<\/a>. Panel finalists will display their work at Milan’s Salone del Mobile<\/a>, a design fair that will allow each contestant to receive global\u00a0exposure. The lucky grand prize winner will be\u00a0selected by a team of judges\u00a0featuring the design world’s biggest\u00a0curators, architects and journalists.\u00a0<\/span>
