If Berlin Art Week were a\u00a0pastry, it would be one\u00a0of those donuts that\u2019s filled\u00a0with so much jelly it\u00a0explodes everywhere before\u00a0you\u2019ve even taken a bite.\u00a0Which is to say that, during\u00a0this annual September\u00a0bash in the German capital,\u00a0things get messy.<\/p>\n

Now in its fifth year,\u00a0Berlin Art Week draws\u00a0people from all\u00a0over the world. Some\u00a0of them come for the\u00a0internationally\u00a0acclaimed exhibitions\u00a0and talks by industry\u00a0bigwigs and critics.\u00a0This year some may\u00a0even be arriving to\u00a0catch the final week of\u00a0the Biennale<\/a>. However,\u00a0as sure as night follows\u00a0day, some people\u00a0turn up, drink too\u00a0much, party too hard\u00a0and make some questionable\u00a0decisions.<\/p>\n

SLEEK should know\u00a0\u2013 we\u2019ve been there\u00a0and puked all over the\u00a0event-branded T-shirt.<\/p>\n

Here are our top ten\u00a0Art Week regrets<\/h2>\n

1 \u2014 2012<\/h3>\n

Fourteen glasses of Ruinart.<\/p>\n

2 \u2014 2014<\/h3>\n

Woke up wearing a canvas dress on an\u00a0inflatable flamingo in the middle of\u00a0Peres Projects. David Ostrowski had\u00a0painted on my outfit, and Karen Boros\u00a0had mistaken me for an artwork and\u00a0made the gallery an offer. My ascent\u00a0to art world notoriety seemed guaranteed.\u00a0And then my hangover began.<\/p>\n

3 \u2014 2015<\/h3>\n

Pretty sure I made out with Hans Ulrich\u00a0Obrist. Update: Found a Post-it\u00a0Note on Instagram that said, \u201cThanks\u00a0for the make-out sesh #HUOmorelikeUHO\u00a0;)\u201d Mostly regret the use of\u00a0the slur \u201cHO\u201d; I\u2019m bigger than that.<\/p>\n

4 \u2014 2013<\/h3>\n

Eleven more glasses of Ruinart.<\/p>\n

5 \u2014 2012<\/h3>\n

Brokered a deal with Deutsche Bank\u00a0to make abstract paintings for their\u00a0lobbies for the rest of my life. Blew it\u00a0the following morning when I realised\u00a0I didn\u2019t know what a lobby was.<\/p>\n

6 \u2014 2015<\/h3>\n

Accidentally started Twitter beef with\u00a0DIS when my iPhone autocorrected\u00a0\u201cLOLhouse\u201d to \u201cthe oversaturation of\u00a0marketing devices and commodification\u00a0in a biennial is both cynical and pass\u00e9\u201d.<\/p>\n

7 \u2014 2012<\/h3>\n

Fell asleep in the Uber on the way to\u00a0Berghain. Woke up on the A9 motorway\u00a0to Leipzig. Shrugged. Went back\u00a0to sleep. Does Leipzig have an Art\u00a0Week?<\/p>\n

8 \u2014 2014<\/h3>\n

Became an Amethyst-Level Member\u00a0of something called Berlin Art Week\u00a0Teen Lit Society. Despite the name, we\u00a0meet once a month. Daniel Richter is\u00a0a member, and his favorite YA series is\u00a0Vampire Academy.<\/p>\n

9 \u2014 2015<\/h3>\n

Moderated a panel called \u201cHow to\u00a0Dodge the Tax Code by Hiding Your\u00a0Money in a Shelter and Score a Bunch\u00a0of Cultural Cachet at the Same Time\u00a0by Buying Art\u2026 I Mean, How to Start\u00a0a Private Museum\u201d. Made out with\u00a0HUO again the green room.<\/p>\n

10 \u2014 2013<\/h3>\n

Attended something that could only be\u00a0described as \u201cstudio-as-hyper-connected-transversal-multi-media-dance\u201d. It\u00a0was about the body. It was about moving\u00a0through space. It was about urgency.\u00a0As far as we can remember it was\u00a0about 21 glasses of Ruinart.<\/p>\n
