WITH MILAN FASHION WEEK DONE AND DUSTED, THE ITALIAN HOUSES REVEALED THEIR STYLING RULES FOR \u00a0SPRING SUMMER ’17<\/h3>\n

Summer Layering<\/h3>\n

Karl Lagerfeld showcased a more practical version of his signature opulence\u00a0for Fendi SS’17. The collection inspired by the home of Marie-Antoinette was rich in detail but balanced out with utilitarian shirts, subtle pinstripes and athletic trousers. The Italian fashion house almost abandoned its famous love for fur – except for some colourful striped gilets. Instead, the drama came from the cascading aprons that were layered over skirts and capri-pants.<\/p>\n

Get Waisted<\/h3>\n

Prada showed the typically chic-yet-awkward aesthetic that we know and love the brand for. This season, Miuccia revealed how to mix something sensible with a touch of decadence – via ostrich feathers. The colour-blocked leather safari jackets were belted at the waist, in fact, almost every look was cinched with a mismatching band of colour. The mandarin collar silk suits and geometric\u00a0printed librarian shirts were classic Miuccia, and models carried handbags like notebooks – a gentle reminder that Prada is the intellectual woman’s\u00a0brand.

Military Meets Romance<\/h3>\n

Diesel Black Gold gave us head-to-toe looks in blush, khaki and white, allowing focus on the mix of military detail and romantic ruffles. The army of models marched down the runway in tough knee-high boots and gladiator sandals whilst showcasing a mix of delicate tiered slip dresses and lace-up utility jackets. The perfect wardrobe for the ‘good girl gone bad’.<\/p>\n

Print on Print<\/h3>\n

The hottest ticket in town was, of course Gucci and it didn’t fail to impress. Studded denim, floor-length florals, pussy bow-ties, patent leather stockings, tulle and turbans, Alessandro Michele threw it all in for SS’17, and it worked in chaotic harmony. Prints defined the season and ranged from graphic retro patterns to bold florals, often worn together. It looks like Gucci maximalism is here to stay!

Timeless Trenches<\/h3>\n

Bottega Veneta celebrated 50 years this season and did so by staying true to the brand’s idea of classic femininity. Traditional trench coat details were used across dresses, jumpsuits and calf-length skirts in buttery leather. Top\u00a0models from past and present were drafted in to showcase the historic collection, including Gigi Hadid, Karen Elson and Lauren Hutton – who closed the chic catwalk show.
