“I want the patchwork of reality to be represented” – Laetitia Duveau<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Fuelled by\u00a0a\u00a0strong desire to help her fellow artists, Laetitia Duveau is hosting her first girl powered exhibition. The show, entitled “Freer in Berlin”, \u00a0presents\u00a0works from 26 artists at\u00a0Blender & Co, a female-run studio located inside the German capital.\u00a0Opening next Saturday for two days only, Duveau describes her curatorial efforts as a celebration of “new femininity”, a\u00a0theme that didn’t even materialise until after the exhibition’s inception.

\n\u201cThe truth about the world can only be\u00a0revealed once everyone is represented. I want the patchwork of reality to be represented,\u201d says Duveau\u00a0about the upcoming show. \u201cWe\u2019ve been raised with stereotypes. I\u2019m not judging anyone. There is an imbalance between men and women because men are supposed to have more power, but we are changing that.\u201d On opening night, she\u2019s especially looking forward to seeing the reactions of so-called “macho men\u201d, a group that Duveau\u00a0hopes will “experience the show and have their values challenged.”
\nTrying to tackle society\u2019s various levels of brainwashing is no easy feat, but Duveau has\u00a0chosen artists who challenge the normative male gaze and its influence on femininity. She gushes over the portrait of Angel Rose shot by Scarlett Carlos Clarke<\/a>, an image that is as iconic as its subject. Meanwhile, Carly Hunt<\/a>\u00a0explores the many narrative arcs in which we most often look for the feminine.

\nAfter speaking to Laetitia and\u00a0examining her curated selection of artwork, it\u2019s clear this exhibition is not afraid to explore the\u00a0darker side of womanhood. An image of bloody thighs by\u00a0Margherita Loba<\/a> is arranged\u00a0nearby a somber nude by Caroline Fayette<\/a>. The\u00a0most striking image from the show\u00a0is Tanguy Loyzance<\/a>‘s photo depicting a\u00a0weapon-wielding woman \u2013 a symbol of the incredible power that every female\u00a0posesses.
