Berlin-Biennale<\/a>. Admittedly they may sound like dead zones for exciting inquiry, and yet there are some video artists who have found them to be fecund forums for creativity. Some are using the online format as a way to fearlessly take on prejudices of the institutionalised art world, while others are agitating online corporate information systems to expose more diverse truths. We\u2019d like to introduce you to five video artists who, with their revolutionary works, will most certainly blow your mind.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content-asset videofit\"><iframe title=\"BOY&#039;Dega: Edited4Syndication - Site Walkthrough\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QUFwr-FXu40?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h3>Wickerham and Lomax<\/h3>\n<p>Wickerham and Lomax would define their practice as an amalgam of \u201cfan boy hissy fits.\u201d The Baltimore-based duo made up\u00a0of Daniel Wickerham and Malcolm Lomax was conceived in 2009 and draws on the exchange of glib gossip and codified information systems. Originally making work under the name <a href=\"http:\/\/duoxduox.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">DUOX<\/a>, Wickerham and Lomax use various media to explore identity and the impact of digital technologies and social spaces. Their ongoing digital narrative project called BOY\u2019Dega also looks at the interplay between author, character, actor and fan and they most recently showed \u201cUncool\u201d at Terrault Contemporary, Baltimore in 2016.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content-asset videofit\"><iframe title=\"Reifying Desire Three\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/44403442?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/jacolby.com\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">Jacolby Satterwhite<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The cord that ties <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sleek-mag.com\/de\/?s=jacolby+satterwhite\" target=\"_blank\">Jacolby Satterwhite<\/a> to his mother in &#8220;The Matriarch&#8217;s Rhapsody&#8221; is strong. In his most recent body of work, the artist feeds from his mother\u2019s archive of sound recordings and drawings. In it, he pieces together images of consumer culture, medicine, sex and astrology. Satterwhite\u2019s metaphorical body and his mother\u2019s conflate into a shared memory and practice that examines insider and outsider art and queer theory. He uses various media and performance to animate a narrative that \u2013 in his words \u2013 \u201cperverts\u201d the mundane objects recorded by his mother.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content-asset videofit\"><iframe title=\"Icon by Rashaad Newsome\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Wc5J5u3Ix2M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/rashaadnewsome.com\/#work\/performance\/shade-compositions-sfmoma-2012\" target=\"_blank\">Rashaad Newsome<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Voguing takes centre stage in Rashaad Newsome\u2019s \u201cThis is What I Want To See\u201d which showed recently at Harlem\u2019s Studio Museum. The video presents a ten year collaboration between Newsome and members of New York\u2019s original queer vogue ballroom scene in the Eighties. The agency, intricacies and talent required for voguing is reframed in Newsome\u2019s work to highlight how performers are represented. In it, he places a critical spotlight on the mainstream appropriation of voguing in the Nineties with the intention of bringing the queer communities of colour from this scene into the institutional space.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content-asset videofit\"><iframe title=\"Cecile B. Evans<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>You may have seen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sleek-mag.com\/de\/?s=Cecile+Evans&amp;submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">C\u00e9cile B. Evans\u2019<\/a> video piece \u201cWhat the Heart Wants\u201d recently at The 9th Berlin Biennale. It\u2019s her examination of how machine learning shapes humanity in the digital age which unfolds into a semblance of absurdities. In it, her protagonists assume all sorts of surreal forms, including: a memory cell from 1972 that has outlived its human hosts, robot carers who are the guardians of lab children and a workers\u2019 union comprising only of disembodied ears. It\u2019s Evans\u2019 intention to unravel the value of emotion and in contemporary society.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content-asset videofit\"><iframe title=\"Google Terms of Service russian\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tXscUWjgzMk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.constantdullaart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Constant Dullaart<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sleek-mag.com\/de\/?s=Constant+Dullaart&amp;submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Constant Dullaart<\/a> has been described as a digital archaeologist. It refers to the artist\u2019s practice of sourcing, unearthing and manipulating images found online. The artist was awarded the 2015 Prix Net Art for his websites and \u201coffline\u201d performances, installations that are informed by technical, social and political networks. One of Dullaart\u2019s signature works \u201cJennifer In Paradise\u201d, is a series based on John Knoll\u2019s image of a woman reclining on a beach that was famously used as Photoshop\u2019s first demo image.
