Sofia Okkonen<\/b><\/h2>\n

Based in Helsinki,\u00a0fine art photographer Sofia Okkonen blends her backgrounds in art and fashion to produce an aesthetic all her own.\u00a0 She told Cheek Magazine that her “Roses” <\/i>series questions standards of femininity and it\u2019s clear she utilises fashion as a stage for her argument. Her use of dress invites the\u00a0viewer in through the gaze and\u00a0yet maintains ownership by keeping a measure of guardedness.<\/p>\n

Nolwenn Brod<\/b><\/h2>\n
French photographer and Gobelins School of the Image graduate Nolwenn Brod is changing the way we look at landscape portraiture. His photography challenges the relationship between the human form and landscape. He went home\u00a0with the\u00a0\u20ac6,000 Elie Saab Prize at Hy\u00e8res, which is accompanied\u00a0by a three week residency programme in Beirut.<\/div>\n

Roos Quakernaat<\/b><\/h2>\n

Dutch photographer Roos Quakernaat was awarded\u00a0the\u00a0Still Life Prize\u00a0at the festival this year. Her work depicts young, faceless women in bizarre, yoga-like poses. Her heavily contrived scenes are laced with physicality while quoting performance art.<\/p>\n

French photographer Paul Rousteau was another notable candidate at\u00a0the Hy\u00e8res Festival this year. His photography draws heavily from art and fashion and uses elements of collage, paint and\u00a0blur to create a unique, pictoral approach to the medium.

Luis Alberto Rodriguez<\/b><\/a><\/h2>\n

Berlin-based, Swedish-American photographer and Sleek Art artist<\/a> Luis Alberto Rodriguez was the winner of the American Vintage Photography Award. His work depicts figures in various stages of costumed dress and is highly sculptural in nature, with particular attention being paid to light and texture.<\/p>\n

Daragh Soden\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

Irish photographer Daragh Soden was awarded the Hy\u00e8res Grand Prix for his work in documenting teenage groups in his hometown of Dublin.\u00a0 His photography blends documentary and portraiture and connects viewers to the subjects with an uncanny clarity.<\/p>\n
