Dian Hanson loves porn. It\u2019s just as well \u2014 she\u2019s the \u201cSexy Book Editor\u201d for publishing tycoon, TASCHEN. Standing at six feet tall, with blonde locks falling to her waist, Hanson is without a doubt the most glam 65 year-old I\u2019ve had the pleasure of meeting. More than that, she\u2019s composed, she\u2019s wise and she\u2019s very,\u00a0very <\/i>familiar with the naked body. <\/span><\/p>\n Hanson\u2019s fascination with sexuality is one she describes as \u201cinnate\u201d. \u201cI was just always very interested in it\u201d, she explains. At 14, she became obsessed with Kraft-Ebing\u2019s Psycopathia Sexualis<\/em>, at 18 she spent her birthday money on pornography. \u201cAnd it was hardcore pornography,\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>she stresses. It wasn\u2019t long before Hanson got her foot in the door and started working in the porn industry. \u201cIt was a hard door to find,\u201d she tells SLEEK<\/em>, but the rest is history. Her life since has been boobs, bums, legs \u2014 dicks and pussies galore. Even her CV is NSFW. \u201cThat was my life goal. I wanted to be a pornographer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Hanson\u2019s bibliography boasts a lot of hardcore work, and most famously the fetish mags Leg Show <\/i>and Juggs. <\/i>She didn\u2019t exactly jump at the opportunity to work at TASCHEN. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to go into books,\u201d she explains. \u201cI love magazines. I love the fact that [they] disappear after a month\u2026 If you make a crap issue, next issue you can reinvent yourself.\u201d But Benedikt Taschen had other ideas. \u201cOne day I got a phone call in my office from a woman with a German accent,\u201d she recalls. Mr. Taschen was taking her for dinner. \u201cI was like what the fuck!?\u201d No amount of wining and dining could persuade Hanson, who was decidedly loyal to her fetish audience. But when Hanson\u2019s publisher died and the mob took over the magazine at the end of the \u201890s, she left. \u201cI just knew the time had come, and I contacted Benedikt.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The transition to books wasn\u2019t easy for Hanson \u2013 \u201cthe permanence scared me,\u201d she admits. \u201cI felt like I had to do it different; I had to do it better; it had to be artistic; I couldn\u2019t be a pornographer any more.\u201d But Benedikt was quick to ease her worries, affirming the TASCHEN ethos Hanson echoes today, \u201cWe publish good art and we publish good pornography, and we do not<\/i> publish bad art or bad pornography.\u201d<\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n Hanson\u2019s start in magazines meant an intimate relationship with the female form. As a heterosexual woman, her vision could be objective. \u201cI could be pragmatic about it,\u201d she asserts. \u201cI could look and I could see what was alluring about a woman\u2026 I could see whether she exuded a kind of sexual welcome.\u201d Jumping in at the deep end, \u201cThe Big Penis Book\u201d was Hanson\u2019s first wild venture into the male form. \u201cI found myself getting distracted!\u201d she admits. \u201cI would find myself attracted to certain men and want to overlook the fact that their penises didn\u2019t measure up,\u201d she explains. \u201cI was always having to pull back and talk myself out of it, like \u201cOK, really. That\u2019s a 6 and a half inch penis. That is NOT big enough.\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n While TASCHEN\u2019s sexy books might be known for their more than risqu\u00e9 photographs, Hanson does extensive research for her insightful written contributions. \u201cIf people take the time to read them they will actually learn something \u2013 that\u2019s my goal.\u201d Her intelligent commentary delves into the psychology of sexuality and the interrelation of sex and human behaviour, though it\u2019s not always appreciated. \u201cIt discourages me when I see an Amazon review about the writing and another person will comment, \u2018oh, come on.. who reads these things?\u2019 I\u2019m like \u2018oh, you bastards!\u2019\u201d But on the bright side, she says Arnold Schwarzenegger is a big fan.<\/span><\/p>\n After 40 years in the industry, you\u2019d assume Hanson had met some crazy people in her time, and you\u2019d be right. From \u201ctopless shoeshine girls\u201d to \u201cbottomless pet groomers\u201d, Hanson has seen it all, but she\u2019s desensitised to the sex industry and its professions \u2014 it\u2019s her normal. \u201cThere aren\u2019t that many unusual occupations,\u201d she emphasises. \u201cThe people I meet, they\u2019re porn actresses, they\u2019re models, they\u2019re prostitutes, dancers, you know. It\u2019s not like the people back in the \u201870s and \u201880s,\u201d she reflects, \u201c when censorship first fell and people could make money doing anything sexual.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n At this time, when Hanson entered the porn industry, first-wave feminism was taking hold<\/span>. \u201cIt was a sex-positive feminism,\u201d she explains. \u201cWe were fighting for women\u2019s rights to buy sex toys and have orgasms and demand sexual satisfaction.\u201d When she started to receive letters from the men reading the magazines, she expected them to be objectifying women, but this was far from reality. \u201cI would get letters from men that would start, \u2018this wont be like the letters you usually get.\u2019 They would go on to describe their love and respect for women and their desire to find a sexual soul mate, who would also become their soul mate in every other respect.\u201d Most of her readers just wanted a happily-ever-after.<\/span><\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.sleek-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Elmer-Batters-Untitled-Sylvia-1-1980.jpeg\")
