Las Vegas is still in the process of healing. Two weeks ago, a terrorist opened fire on concert-goers in the city,\u00a0<\/span>leaving 58 people dead and 546 injured, and nothing has felt normal since. Vegas\u2019 casinos are reporting drastic declines in visitors. The\u00a0<\/span>infamous \u201cWhat happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas\u201d slogan is scarcely uttered. A city which was notorious for its flamboyance and vibrant party scene remains strangely quiet.<\/span><\/p>\n What communities require to heal after tragedy is a sense of unity, belonging, and \u2014 however banal it might sound \u2014 love. This is exactly the sentiment that is revealed in the work of Las Vegas-based stylist Jimi Urquiaga, for whom Nevada\u2019s capital city is a constant source of inspiration. Behind the city\u2019s glamorous and reckless image, there has always been a beating heart of families, communities, friends and kindred spirits. It\u2019s this raw vein of connection that Urquiaga\u2019s work exposes.<\/span> The humorous and warm-hearted portraits are accompanied by two \u201clove letters\u201d Jimi Urquiaga wrote. The first is addressed to all of the women in his family; the second is a personal tribute to his Abuela Sonia, who is currently battling Alzheimer\u2019s. The tenderness that permeates the series and the deeply personal subject matter make \u201cLa Familia Urquiaga\u201d an unusually emotional fashion editorial. \nMade in collaboration with photographer Alexander Saladrigas, Urquiaga\u2019s \u201cLa Familia Urquiaga\u201d is a moving tribute to his family and friends. In bold colours and warm hues, the series portrays \u201csubjects that I\u2019ve found beautiful since the beginning of my life\u201d, Urquiaga states. Urquiaga\u2019s many aunts, grandmothers, cousins and friends are featured in classic Las Vegas locales \u00ad \u2013 at casino slot machines, next to opulent sculptures, under Vegas\u2019 bright blue skies.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.sleek-mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/las-vegas-casino.jpg\")
