As part of the Schirn Kunsthalle’s ongoing exhibition “Privacy”, tonight internationally renowned photographer Nan Goldin will host a talk along with Schirn curator, Martina Weinhart, on Goldin’s extensive body of work. Discussing\u00a0the work currently displayed in “Privacy”, \u00a0Goldin will also share her thoughts on how she captured intensely private moments, while at the same time conveying the image in a sensitive manner.<\/p>\n

Goldin has dedicated an entire career to documenting subcultural lifestyles; starting as a teenager where she photographed the drag queens of the Boston scene, to heroin and domestic abuse, and the devastating effects of AIDS. Never one to shy away from pushing the boundaries of privacy and a subjects personal space,Goldin\u00a0has continually discussed the issues of exposing what happens “behind closed doors”, resulting in one of the most influential and provocative photographic portfolios of the Twenty First century.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Privacy” investigates artists, both past and present, who expose the private sphere in their work and the “publicness of the intimate”.\u00a0 Ranging from the graphic polaroids of Dash Snow, to the personal work of Ai Weiwei, the show also exhibits a long list of visual greats including Richard Billingham, Sophie Calle, Tracey Emin, Leigh Ledare, Ryan McGinley, Mark Morrisroe, and Hans-Peter Feldmann to name a few.<\/p>\n
