With the current state of politics, there\u2019s a lot to be sceptical about as 2019 approaches. But, a new creative calendar released this week is brightening our horizons. Named after the incoming Chinese New Year, which symbolises fortune and luck, <\/span>Year of the Pig <\/span><\/i><\/a>is an astrological take on the year ahead produced by a creative team including SLEEK favourite <\/span>Claire Barrow,<\/span><\/a> photographer Eloise Parry<\/a>, Paris-based visual designer PZ Opassuksatit<\/a>, Japanese hair stylist Kiyoko Odo<\/a> (of Comme des Gar\u00e7on fame) and make-up artist, <\/span>Anne Sophie Costa<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Together, this London-based quintet have photographed and designed a 2019 calendar based on the signs of the zodiac rather than the months of the year. Each sign is paired with a model photographed by Parry, with a sculptural \u2018do designed by Odo, finished with earrings by Barrow and makeup by Costa. Speaking to SLEEK, Barrow says that she didn\u2019t rigorously use themes from Chinese culture or the Zodiac to guide her creation process: \u201cIt\u2019s a bit tongue-in-cheek the whole thing with horoscopes. It\u2019s hard to believe them in the first place\u2026 it\u2019s got that element of silliness and fun around it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Barrow\u2019s jewellery is made of a myriad of materials, including fake fur, flowers, clay, velvet, soldering, beads and \u201clots of plastic\u201d. And although it\u2019s difficult for her to pick \u2014 \u201cI honestly really like a lot of them\u2026 I know you\u2019re not really meant to say this but I think I\u2019ve done quite a good job!\u201d \u2014 Barrow confesses she has a few favourites. \u201cI think the gold piece [Sagittarius] is quite amazing. It\u2019s quite grand, it really feels luxurious,\u201d she explains. \u201cMaybe it\u2019s just the scale of it, it was larger, so it was more exciting. It\u2019s also kind of tacky and Christmassy, so it fits well with my style.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re a fan of this fresh take on new year calendar, you\u2019ll be pleased to know that there\u2019s hope for the future for this creative quintet. \u201cIt was really refreshing to work with all women as there was no ego involved,\u201d Barrow reveals. So, can we hold out hope for a <\/span>2020 Year of the Rat \u00a0<\/span><\/i>follow up? Will they work together in the future? \u201cProbably,\u201d confirms Barrow. \u201cWith Eloise definitely. And with everyone else I don\u2019t see why not, we worked so well together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
