Her designs are infused with storytelling devices, such as heritage fabrics, like khadi a hand-loomed Indian cotton, and vintage quilts transformed into jackets. Employing techniques like appliqu\u00e9, patchwork and embroidery to infiltrate masculine silhouettes with traditionally feminine crafts, it\u2019s easy to see why she\u2019s a finalist. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although he uses high tech materials and progressive techniques, Morinaga is hooked on making clothes for the real world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Probably one of the best known on the shortlist, Londoner <\/span>Bethany Williams<\/span><\/a> is a pioneering talent on the sustainable fashion scene. For her SS18 collection, <\/span>Breadline<\/span><\/i>, she collaborated with Vauxhall Food Bank and supermarket chain Tesco \u00a0to create a collection made from waste materials and recycled cardboard to shed light on the UK food shortage problem. Williams has said that she hates the \u201cwasteful aspect\u201d of the industry and seeks a new environmentally-forward way of working.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Working with craftspeople across his native Nigeria, Ize\u2019s tailoring nurtures local traditions as much as he elevates them to the mainstream.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hailing from San Francisco, Phipps mingles West Coast cool with a desirable sustainable ethos \u2014\u00a0his garments are made from organic cotton and recycled materials. Having cut his teeth at Dries Van Noten and Marc Jacobs, Phipps understands the necessity of a finely-crafted silhouette but one that is combined with an contemporary consciousness and a much-needed dose of good humour.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since then, Cooke has teamed up with his partner, Jake Burt, on his eponymous brand to make artfully re-designed \u201cordinary\u201d pieces of clothing \u2014\u00a0a sweater vest punctuated with holes, for example, or a neat Fair Isle sweater entangled in a coil of rope.<\/span><\/p>\n
