For SLEEK\u2019s 2019 summer issue, out now<\/a>, sci-fi artist, Esmay Wagemans<\/a> teamed up with Selam X<\/a> studio core member Claudia Rafael<\/a> to create an exclusive editorial, entitled “Glass Skin,” using latex and glass body moulds to sculpt touchable manifestations of the augmented reality experiences we are all used to seeing on Instagram. In turn, Rafael, who provided creative direction for the real life shoot, digitalised the experience into a facial filter that lets you slip into the translucent mask.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt expresses a feeling of future beauty,\u201d Rafael says of the collaboration. \u201cWagemans’ masks are physical, but look kind of unreal and seem to be out of another world. The filter is digital but looks real, like a real object on your face.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>The Selam X core member, who has worked on projects with MTV and Dazed, was excited to collaborate with the creator of Solange Knowles\u2019 iconic body armour from the When I Get Home<\/em> visual album, because she felt that they could create a similar feeling in different mediums<\/span><\/p>\n
