Although Berlin is now most-famous for techno, the\u00a0 shadows of ’80s new wave and post-punk music, attitudes and philosophy hang around the city like a familiar ghost. This is what inspired photographer\u00a0Letizia Guel<\/a>, who is based in the German capital, for her editorial on rebellion. Intent on recreating the image of the misunderstood teenager stuck in a society whose cogs churn in the opposite direction, the photographer positions her model, the androgynous Vivian Lawson, among the swans and ferns of a pond in North London\u2014a reference to the environmental concerns that have bubbled up into a <\/span>global movement<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Styled in monochrome in a variation of patterns and cuts, some feminine and others masculine, the turquoise tones of the model\u2019s hair stand out in stark contrast to the muted backdrop. Seeking a compatible personality behind the faces of the models she shoots, Guel chose to photograph Vivian because she saw \u201crebellion and serenity in his aesthetics in a way that resembled what I wanted to convey.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
