If Instagram is your go-to place for fashion resources, chances are you\u2019ve stumbled across the gloriously vibrant account <\/span>@airtomyearth<\/span><\/a>\u2014and if you haven’t, it\u2019s definitely time to get acquainted. Run by Melbourne-born and London-based stylist and art director <\/span>Jamie-Maree Shipton<\/span><\/a>, @airtomyearth is a glistening treasure trove of fluro-colour, eye-watering jewel tones, kaleidoscopic textures and clashing prints. Shipton has an eye for the avant-garde\u2014her grid is a gallery of new and boundary-pushing design and she has made a name for herself as a champion of young London fashion in particular. While to look at Shipton\u2019s account, the sense of a strong aesthetic shines through\u2014every image is a showcase of something a little different or delightfully weird in fashion\u2014but for Shipton it\u2019s actually quite hard for her to define her signature style.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s something I always get asked\u2014how would you describe your aesthetic\u2014but the longer I\u2019ve been doing this, the harder it gets,\u201d she tells SLEEK. \u201cI think overall it\u2019s just an aesthetic that doesn\u2019t shy away from colour, print, clashing, layering. I\u2019m not a dress and heels kind of stylist\u2014there are always levels to my looks. I look for details and points of difference. I love weird shapes and proportions, as well as clean lines\u2014contradictions. Having previously worked with the likes of Vogue Italia<\/em>, Garage<\/em> and i-D<\/em>, Shipton platforms exciting new designers like <\/span>Paula Canovas del Vas, who presented her <\/span>third collection through a virtual reality installation, or CSM graduate <\/span>Celia Calder\u00f3n Asensio, who makes zany knitted tights. Elsewhere, there\u2019s Dom Sebastian (known for his glitchy prints), French crochet designer Lou de B\u00e8toly, and frequently:\u00a0 the extremely eye-catching jewellery creations of Florence T\u00e9tier Bijoux. Shipton <\/span>prefers to go with her gut rather than trailing the elusive algorithm when it comes to fashion and curation. \u201cThere is a new algorithm everyday and if you\u2019re chasing that you let the important things go astray,\u201d she sagely notes. And when it comes to a favourite style icon or influencer, Shipton would rather not say. \u201cI don\u2019t really follow individuals …I\u2019m more interested in how editorials and collections made me feel, rather than who was wearing them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Keeping in mind her unique eye for all that\u2019s fresh and boundary-pushing in fashion, we asked Shipton to share her knowledge, and give us her predictions for the designers to keep an eye out for the year ahead.<\/span><\/p>\n

“A fellow Aussie, Jordan studied at CSM in London, which is where I first met him. He released an amazing graduate collection then went on a hiatus to create his next big moment. And finally it\u2019s arrived. He just released his second collection and he has delivered his signature oversized proportions along with some new interesting elements.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“It\u2019s like having a birthday everyday. Each look in Laura\u2019s collection reminds me of a gift. The wrapping-paper-esque prints, the draping and bow like elements. Plus I\u2019m a sucker for a huge puffy sleeve.”<\/p>\n

“This just makes me happy. These amazing earring creations come from none other than a young little girl (I think she is 7 or 8!) Stephanie Veuriot of Autrement PR let\u2019s her daughter make magic during craft days of the winter months, and the results are little blobs, discs and modules of pure happiness.
