Last week, SLEEK\u2014in collaboration with luxury performance brand <\/span>Canada Goose<\/span><\/a>\u2014<\/span>screened a short film<\/a> entitled, <\/span>Bare Existence,<\/span><\/i> which takes an important look<\/span> at the work of <\/span>non-profit organisation, Polar Bears International<\/a> (PBI)<\/span>. Produced over the course of 7 days in November 2018 by Stept Studios in partnership with Canada Goose and PBI, Bare Existence<\/em> follows PBI’s members<\/span>\u00a0as they live alongside polar bears in Churchill\u2014a town on Hudson Bay in the far north of Manitoba, Canada. Through the course of the film, the viewer learns that while Churchill is the ‘polar bear capital of the world’, its numbers of recorded polar bears are decreasing. After the screening, SLEEK and Canada Goose held a special panel discussion,\u00a0chaired by Jan-Michael Quammie,<\/a>\u00a0with Dr. Steven Amstrup, an adjunct professor at the University of Wyoming in the United States, who is PBI\u2019s Chief Scientist and appears in the short film<\/span>, the film\u2019s director Max Lowe (of <\/span>award-winning documentary Adventure Not War <\/em>(2017), which was\u00a0screened at Cannes, Tribeca Film Festival and indie Shorts Film Festival) and Dr. Flavio Lehner, a\u00a0climate scientist at the Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science at ETH Z\u00fcrich, Switzerland. As part of the Berlinale festivities, Canada Goose set up T<\/em>he Art of Film installation<\/i> at Berlin\u2019s ewerk venue in conjunction with the screening.<\/p>\n
