Bruzzone’s work focuses on an ongoing study for a set of emojis created after E. Sottsass’s Bacterio. With works previously shown in Palais de Tokyo and Kunsthalle Basel, this is the Berlin based artist and curator’s second solo show at Gillmeier Rech.

For the opening symposium, a discussion on art interventions in public spaces and their effects on free speech will be held. Bottom-up initiatives from Talca, Puerto Rico, Dublin and Berlin will also be examined. The exhibition itself presents the possibilities that the public has to shape its own city.

Schmidt explores the colonisation of the African continent through artwork created with acrylic and silicone on canvas. His 15-part painting entitled “The Division of the Earth – Tableaux on the Legal Synopsis of the Berlin Africa Conference” will be on display, as well as a series of new works that use the motif of glass to address the rhetorics of neo-colonialism.
