Every week, one in three Germans skips lunch due to a lack of time, according to a study by YouGov for yFood. What comes across as a shocking statistic is the sad truth of a world where time is the ultimate currency. This staggering figure serves as a poignant introduction to the story of Benjamin Kremer and Noel Bollmann, founders of yFood, who embarked on a mission to address the challenge of maintaining a healthy diet amidst the chaos of modern life.

Benjamin and Noel, like many others, faced the struggle of opting for fast, unhealthy food on university campuses, during travels, and in the hustle of work life. The realization that they weren’t alone in this predicament became the spark for yFood—a wholesome and straightforward alternative designed for situations where time constraints make balanced meals a luxury.

The simplicity of the idea belies the intricate journey of product development. “Our drinks were balanced and healthy relatively quickly – delicious took a moment,” shares Benjamin, reflecting on the initial recipes crafted with the guidance of leading food technologists. Motivated by the clear goal of curbing excessive junk food consumption, they transformed challenges into opportunities, laying the foundation for what yFood is today.

Beyond the duo’s initial passion, a dedicated team of nearly 200 individuals in Munich has joined the cause. From drinks to powders, bars, and hot bowls, yFood has evolved into a category known as Smart Food. These products share a common trait—a complete nutritional profile coupled with quick and easy consumption. yFood has not only become the German market leader in this category but has also expanded its reach to over 30 countries, establishing a firm presence in stationary retail.

Yet, as Noel emphasizes, misconceptions persist yFood products are not mere diet or protein shakes, nor are they meant for weight loss. The founders stress that Smart Food complements traditional meals, underlining the importance of a diverse diet. Their personal love for good food echoes in their encouragement for a conscious approach to nutrition, emphasizing its social aspect with friends, family, or colleagues.

The study by YouGov underscores the real-world struggle faced by many—skipping meals due to time constraints. Benjamin acknowledges this challenge and positions yFood as a smart alternative precisely for such moments. However, their vision extends beyond convenience; they aspire to contribute to a broader shift in eating habits, firmly believing in the potential of yFood to make a lasting impact on overall nutrition.
