With art fairs, gallery openings, catwalks and showrooms, it has never been harder to keep up with the who’s-who of the art and fashion world. Apollo TV provides a critical crutch to support art aficionados and fashion fanatics alike. Sleek spoke with Melanie Mohr, CEO and founder of Apollo TV, on how she plans to bring the the faces behind the biennales to a web-browser near you.
As a name, “Apollo” has grown to be a symbol of discovery and enlightenment: the god of light, sun, truth, prophecy and arts; the project through which humans first landed on the moon–how did the name “Apollo TV” come about?
Discovery, enlightenment and truth – these are the ideals of Apollo TV and Muse especially as they pertain to the arts.
Far away from the Ancient Greeks and the Moon, today in Berlin and across the world there is this ever-growing sense of creativity that Apollo TV and Apollo Muse set out to explore and share in new, engaging ways. The new Apollo Muse app is the first RSS feed reader of it’s kind. It’s designed to bring people closer to the creative scene they love and the visionaries who inspire us all.
Apollo Muse collects and curates art and design media into a RSS feed-reader for the iPhone–what does the curation process for Apollo Muse involve? From where does the app source the articles?
Apollo Muse is the first real-time, customisable aggregator of content from popular art and design news publishers. Resources are carefully chosen by our imaginative, international team and contributors who are knowledgeable in art, design, technology and more. In the end, you can be the curator and pick where you source the content from. We don’t claim to read your mind and presuppose what you should see; there’s plenty of room for discovering new places as well as keeping up to date with old favourites. Zeitgeist articles recommended by their publishers are available from the last three days and are updated every day.
How does the Apollo Muse App relate and interact with Apollo.tv as a media platform?
Apollo Muse is the first initiative of many from Apollo TV: a small gift, as it is for free, from us to the art world designed to inspire artists and art enthusiasts alike. With the app we also hope to introduce more people to Apollo TV as a platform to show their work in new and innovative ways.
Apollo.tv, launching in 2015, will take viewers behind the scenes to meet some of the most creative people in the art and design worlds who help to shape our future.
What comes next for Apollo.tv?
Our focus at the moment is on launching the TV channel next year. Currently, content is being aggregated and collected. The first formats are already available online at www.apollo.tv and select content will be viewable on mobile devices shortly. We will expand our consumer-friendly network and are bringing out a new Apollo TV App for videos; the Muse app will continue to be updated with more great publishers and blogs.
Later we plan to empower the art community and push the boundaries of creative expression globally: offering the opportunity to interact with and discover new sources of inspiration and celebrating visionary artists and designers across multiple disciplines. There are going to be kiosk systems in taxis, airlines and hotels, all dealing with the business of modern life by making it more beautiful and inspiring.
2015 will be an exciting year for Apollo. Watch this space. We’re just getting started.
