In recent seasons, Lagos has emerged as a major fashion destination thanks to people like youth photographer Stephan Tayo and 2019 LVMH finalist Kenneth Ize, whose eponymous label features traditional Nigerian craftsmanship. Last weekend, saw Lagos Fashion Week take place, showcasing a wealth of lively design talent, demonstrating the fearless approach to style that that Nigerian capital has become known for. Below, are some of our favourites.
Rick Dusi
The streetwear-meets-tailoring brand was pushing summary onesies that had us wishing it wasn’t November. But the shimmering suits were getting us in the mood for imminent ‘party season’.
Orange Culture
One of Lagos’ familiar faces, Orange Culture, sent down its signature saturated clothing, but topped with a beaded fringe hat that we suspect we may see on Billie Porter soon.
Maki Oh
Maki Oh served collaged creations embellished with tassels, Bordeaux sequins, fluid fabrics and strategic bare skin.
Style Temple
Style Temple gave us the voluminous womenswear silhouettes of our dreams in fairytale shades of ice blue and pale sugary pinks.
Maxivive
The label known for its androgynous ensembles stunned as it mixed utility wear with suiting.
Emmy Kazbit
The Lagosian label served an unexpected mix of traditional prints and suiting with modern cutout silhouettes to make for eye-catching co-ed looks.
